so far this winter;
Nov 20: rain turned to extreme hail then to heavy sleet.It then turned to snow as it intensified. some settled on cars and then stopped. Dec 19: Icy rain fell leading to a layer of ice which melted with rain that followed. thunder and lighting and wind was recorded. sleety rain then followed. March 26: rain turned to sleet for a time before turning back to rain. This came after a week of hail showers. Some of these hail showers where so intense that they left up to 3cm of hail on the ground

as the jet stream pushes southeast it will also drag with it at first an active frontal system and then by Friday Cold air!!! the frontal system should arrive before the cold air pushes in which means that any snow is extremely unlikely except maybe in the Scottish hills. The cold air will allow for some significant snow fall at the beginning of next week in the north mainly to the hills, but as the jet stream pushes further south and east it may start to fall at sea level. There is unlikely to be any snow fall in the south of England, but we will keep an eye on it.
Rather than snow this March heat might start to become an issue in the south east. Temperatures by the end of the week will be around 15 degrees which is above average for this time of year. Next week there is some uncertainty whether it will get warmer or if temperatures will fall at or below normal.
We will keep you updated here. |
