Storm 5 only affected the northern parts of the uk. It past over northern Scotland, rather than the forecasted north west meaning the pressure could have been over 984mb. This brought wind gusts of over 70mph to parts of central Scotland and blizzard conditions seven to low levels for a time. Rain fell predominantly at low levels and snow in high ground, however occasional out burst of both occurred in both locations.
There is the possibility that later this week an area of low pressure could become our next storm, but it is only a possibility at this stage.

It may not feel like it but storm 4 has now moved away and is over Scandinavia. In its wake it has left behind some strong winds, which may gust to Gale force or even severe Gale force in place. There is no reported damage from this storm however there was some flood as seen by the 3 warnings out for Scotland. The storm had a central pressure of 972mb as it passed over northern Scotland. This lead to some blizzard conditions over the hills of northern England and even down to lower levels in Scotland, but with rain pretty much everywhere else.
Storm 5 will Mott have as a big as an impact. The central pressure will be around 984mb and it will still pass of northern Scotland. There isn't going to be much moisture with this system and so any rain or snow will be confined to Scotland and northern England. There is the potential for more blizzards over the hills of northern England and above 200m in Scotland, however it will fall mainly as rain to lower levels. There could also be some thunder mixed in with the heavier bands of rain. We will keep you updated if anything changes. |
