A spell of persistent and at times heavy snow is expected for parts of eastern Scotland starting on Thursday night and lasting into Friday. By Friday morning, accumulations of 5-10 cm are likely above about 100 m with 15 cm or more possible above 200 m. At lower levels and near coasts an uncertain mix of rain and snow is expected, with rain likely to predominate, bringing the risk of standing water on roads. While accumulations by day will be temporary and slushy away from the hills, snow showers will settle more readily later on Monday evening, overnight and early Tuesday. 5-10cm may accumulate on high level roads above 300m, with some drifting in strong to gale force northerly winds. 1-3cm is likely at lower levels, mainly above 150m, though temporary slushy falls are possible even on the lowest ground. Icy stretches are an additional hazard in the clearer spells between the showers, mainly over higher routes. Issued at 1051 on Fri 8 Apr 2016 Valid from 0500 on Sun 10 Apr to 1200 on Sun 10 Apr 2016 Strong winds are expected to affect the far southwest of England on Sunday, with gusts of 45-55 mph quite widely inland, locally 60 mph particularly on exposed coastlines and hills. The strong winds will accompanied by a band of rain, which may be heavy and persistent at times. The public should be aware of difficult driving conditions with the potential for a combination of strong winds and spray on roads, with a likelihood of some minor travel disruption.
