Issued 30 September at 09:55 Valid from 02:00 on 01 October to 18:00 on 01 October Showers on Friday evening will become more frequent overnight with spells of more persistent showery rain developing after midnight, extending further east through Saturday morning. The rain will be often heavy with a risk of hail, lightning and gusty winds. Be aware of the likelihood of localised surface water flooding and difficult driving conditions. Rain and showers will become less heavy towards late afternoon before clearing during the evening. YELLOW WARNING OF RAIN for Kent and Sussex Issued 30 September at 10:08 Valid from 04:00 on 01 October to 20:00 on 01 October Showers will become more frequent later on Friday night with spells of more persistent showery rain developing through Saturday morning. The strongest winds are most likely across northwestern areas, where gusts of 70 mph are possible. However, much of Scotland could see gusts of 55-60 mph. Please be aware that potential impacts could include minor travel disruption with some bridge restrictions, and possible damage to trees and structures. Additionally, large waves will build off northern and western coasts with the risk of some wave overtopping here. Some low-level river flooding impacts are likely, while excess surface water could lead to localised flooding in prone areas. The rain will start to clear this region later on Saturday evening. Strong winds are also likely to generate rough seas. Be aware of the likelihood of some travel disruption and difficult driving conditions. Rain will be accompanied by strong to gale force southerly winds, and leaf fall and tree debris may reduce road drainage. Excess surface water could lead to localised flooding in prone areas, whilst strong winds are also likely to generate rough seas. Be aware of the likelihood of some limited travel disruption and difficult driving conditions. The rain will start to clear this region later on Saturday evening. Frequent lightning and hail may be additional hazards. Whilst there remains some uncertainty about developments and areas affected, there could be major disruption. Please be prepared for the potential for very severe weather conditions bringing flash flooding and disruption to transport. Please be aware that whilst many places will miss them, there is the risk of flash flooding where they do occur. This is an update to the Alert issued on Wednesday, to delay the start time by an hour and also to reduce the northward and westward extent whilst increasing the eastern extent of the warning area. Issued 14 September at 13:43 Valid from 14:00 on Thu 15 Sep to 23:50 on Thu 15 Sep Thunderstorms will break out in warm, moist air spreading up from the continent. Some locations could see 30-40 mm in an hour and where this falls on urban areas or main roads it could cause disruption to transport and possibly to power. The main risk period is during the afternoon and early evening, though a few thunderstorms are likely to rumble on into the night.There is the risk of frequent lightning. Please be aware that whilst many places will miss them, there is the risk of flash flooding. YELLOW WARNING OF RAIN for parts of South Wales and many parts of England Issued at 14 Sep 2016 at 14:06 Valid from 00:10 on Fri 16 Sep to 19:00 on Fri 16 Sep Rain spreading from the west may turn locally very heavy and thundery from early Friday, with the risk of some torrential downpours very locally. Please be aware of the risk of some localised flooding. A front coming from the Atlantic will merge with warm, unstable air over the country to bring the risk of 30-40 mm in the hour in places and more than 50 mm in a few hours. Whilst the vast majority will have much less than this, it could cause disruption, especially if heavier bursts coincide with urban areas.
